Now that I'm off the topic of teens, I stumbled on some other pictures while looking. I think I have found a picture of a skirt elevator in use!

See how her skirt is looped up and shows her petticoat underneath? That is what a skirt elevator does. It keeps your nice dress out of the mud. Even if your petticoats do get muddy, you drop your skirt over them when you get to where you were going, and no one can even tell!

Well, that's all for now!

Growing Up

I'm making this post because I wanted to share some CDVs I've found of teens wearing long skirts. In the 1860's, when a girl began letting her skirts down, it meant she was growing up. More adult styles also began to be worked into her wardrobe. Shorter skirts for girls was the same as boys wearing short pants. I've been wanting to do this for a while, because I really think that I have seen more longer hems than a lot of people think... So... that being said, this post is only going to include longer hems on girls. This doesn't mean that I haven't found LOTS of pictures of girls with shorter skirts, because I have. It only means that I have found more pictures of girls with longer skirts than I had previously thought were in existence. :)

Her skirt isn't floor-length, but then most women's weren't either.

She looks to be about seventeen. I like her jacket. I've seen one for sale just like it!

Again, her skirt isn't floor-length. I like her sleeves.

Marie Peter on her Sweet Sixteen!

Hers is as long as I've seen any middle-class lady's skirt.

Her skirt is DRAGGING!

Her dress is beautiful!

Her slashes in her sleeves are beautiful!

She has an interesting sleeve treatment.

This looks like her coming out ensemble. Beautiful!

What beautiful hair!

Same kind of hair. I love this ensemble, too!

This one was gotten off of Anna Allen's website http://thegracefullady.com All these next few were.

What a pretty outfit!

This was a short sleeved dress that they added undersleeves to.

Her bodice is pretty!

So, all that being said, here is a picture of a dress on exhibit. This belonged to fourteen year old Nellie Grant and was worn by her during the year 1869.

Well... just thought I would share my findings because I thought they were very interesting. Your thoughts or comments are welcome! :) Enjoy.

So... I found more CDVs! Couldn't wait till tomorrow cause I'm on a shared comp and didn't want to lose the links! Here they are...

I love this blouse-waist-skirt combination! It's beautiful.

Don't know what she is, but she looks like some sort of Courtier. She's very graceful.

Mary Todd Lincoln. She had a black lady do her dresses.. The lady must have had awesome taste because I love Mrs. Lincoln's clothing!

A French mother with her little boy. Aren't they adorable?

Lovely hair and dress.

Her sleeve treatment is very interesting.

This is beautiful!

Empress of Denmark. I love her dress!

I know this isn't a CDV but isn't it beautiful? Princess Elisaveta Esperovna Troubetzkaya
I guess she's Russian. What a beautiful painting!

The Little People

So... I haven't posted in a few days, but while browsing, I came across a number of cute CDVs. This post's about 'Little People' or Midgets! They're so cute!

This is a circus ballerina. Isn't she adorable?

Aren't the two ladies pretty! And the gentleman is quite good looking! :)

Look at the beautiful clothes! Imagine only paying for about three yards of fabric for a dress instead of eight!

Of course, Tom Thumb and his beautiful wife...

What a lovely ensemble! Just like dressing a doll!

These three are adorable!

Lizzie Reed. What a pretty face she has!

I think this is Tom Thumb's wife... but I couldn't be sure!

This is Tom Thumb's wedding! At the reception (they had it in a huge hotel) they stood on the grand piano to greet their guests!

This is another picture of Tom Thumb's wife. She's darling!

Oh Oh! Here's another picture of their wedding!

Alright, that's all for little people... but I did find this picture that I just love... Because I love horses! lol Most of these dwarfs, if not all of them were sideshow performers, and this horse came up on my search...

Look at that main and tail! I wonder if it gets in the horse's way!

Well, that's all for this post. I hope you enjoy my little delve into the circus world! :)

Little Dolls

This post's going to be all about little kids! I've found some beautiful CDVs of children.

Look at her little Santa Claus jacket! And the embroidery on her skirt!

Look at these three gentlemen! lol Little one looks like he just started wearing pants!

What a large family!

lol This sure is a funny picture! I wonder if the boy came up with it..

Three little dolls!

So sweet!

Little ballerina! I wonder if that was considered proper in those days. I don't think it was. I'll ask some other reenactors and then post the reply! :)

Well this is all for now. I've got a few things I have to do. So... I'll post again later and Enjoy these! :)

Well.. I've had a little more time to browse. Here are some more CDVs I've found!

Both of these dresses are beautiful. I like the bodice treatment the girl on the left's got.

This CDV was hand colored. I like her skirt. It's gorgeous and it just goes so well with her vest and jacket combination.

What a beautiful dress! I like... just everything on her dress!

What a beautiful sheer! I love the shirring.

A lovely young lady. Her sleeves are very pretty.

This dress is a gathered silk. I like how simple it is.

Such a grand dress!

Another pretty sheer.

Look at that beautiful dress... and hair!

Well... this is all for today I guess! Enjoy! :)
