Sheers

Hello, again everyone! I haven't posted anything on this blog for quite a long time! :O That's alright, however, because I hadn't been doing any kind of historical sewing or research (except for vintage things).

Today's subject is sheer gowns!

Here is a nice sheer gown! I love the tucks put in the bodice to add interest! Very nice.

This one is pretty simple :) I think it's interesting, however, that the sleeves are gathered along the inside seam. It's an interesting little subtle interest :)

Looks to me to be a silk sheer :) I like the poofiness in the sleeves.

I cannot tell if this is a sheer or not. It looks to be one, judging by the change in color in the tucks. I like the white bodice with skirt and bolero jacket!

And one more CDV simply because I don't want to lose it!

WOW! That is one gorgeous gown! I think it is made out of wool.. perhaps a wool/silk blend! But look at all that soutache! Wow! This is a beautiful dress. Maybe a riding habit? I'm not certain but I like it!

There you are for now! Thought I would pop in here and let people know I'm still alive! haha

Love,
Ruth

CDV's cont.

I know I haven't posted on here in a while... I've been busy on my weekly blog!

Cute kid! I like the mother's bonnet!

She's pretty. I like her headband as well! :)

This dress is pretty!

This is beautiful!

Marry Todd Lincoln. I don't know why people say she was so overweight... her arms here are thin!

Wow!

I like the contrasting ruffle. It adds a lot of interest. :)

This isn't a CDV but I love the pink on it! It is an original.

I can't remember if I've shared this before! LOL

An Iroquois woman. How colorful!

That's all for now! Don't forget to check out my other blog and my custom orders site.

More CDVs...

WOW! I've been off this blog for a while! Oh well, better late than never xD I've been browsing for the express intent of... POSTING! lol Here are some interesting clothes..

I still can't quite figure out how those bodices are done. It looks like a separate piece really... and it buttons to the bodice? Anyone know how to do that?

Weird! She looks like the girl above! SCARY!

Nice wrapper. And look at her decorated hairnet.. That's not a snood, it's a hairnet with added ribbon.

Hey! Guess who this is! lol How do, general?

A REAL zouave outfit!

Hmm... can't tell what's going on here. I think this is a german picture, judging by the names on the bottom of the card. Look at her hair!

Oh my! Look at those sleeves.. and the hair!

Simple trimming, but pretty!

As always, my apologies if I have posted a picture that I already did. This is all for now, as I don't have much time.

Enjoy! and don't forget to check out my custom orders website at:

God bless!

CDVs

Hi again.. my I haven't posted in a while!  Well, no particular CDVs to share, just a few I found. Check in over at my other blog and I'll be VERY active on there! sewingroomtales.blogspot.com

So, here are some CDVs

What a cutie!

She's got a material bow at her throat. I always thought ladies used brooches. I guess I'm wrong!

What a pretty dress. Look at her short hair.

That's an interesting trim she's got on the right. I wonder why she did white to the left of the button closure.

Looks like a wool... I'm making mine! xD

Well, I'm not sure what's going on by her ears, but isn't this a pretty CDV?

Nancy Elizabeth Houston. She almost looks like a modern girl that plays sports (her hair looks sweaty!)

My! Quite militant, isn't she? lol

Well... I guess this is all for this post. As always, I apologize if I have posted a picture twice! Feel free to check out my new blog sewingroomtales.blogspot.com

Also, I now have a custom Civil War era reproductions site... Bespoke By Ruth

Feel free to look at that, and, if you don't need anything, recommend it to your friends who may. I do more than just dresses and my prices are very reasonable. Have fun looking around!

1860's Men

This post is actually being made to collect originals of civilian men from the Civil War. I have started a sewing business and need some original pictures for people to browse through.

That's a nice semi-fitted jacket he's wearing.

This fine looking gentleman is wearing a nice coat.

That's the problem with men's fashion, it all looks alike! lol

He looks like an intellectual! haha

Well, I think I have enough pictures now. So this is all. Enjoy!

Short Hair

Hi. This time, I wasn't browsing. Some ladies on the forum I belong to, are having trouble with having modern short hair. It's hard to pin hair pieces to, and impossible to leave alone while trying to get a period appropriate look. That's why I'm doing a post documenting ladies (young and old) that have short hair.

It looks like she has shorter hair with lots of curls! Maybe curl your hair?

This is a younger lady with wavy hair. It's pretty.

The lady in the middle and the lady standing on the right. Both have short hair.

She has short hair, as well.

Wow! It looks like her neck's been shaved, too! I wonder...

Another short haired picture.

So far, the best idea seems to be using pomade to slick the front back. Or you could curl it if your hair's long enough. I don't have short hair, so I wouldn't know, but maybe you could slick your hair back, pin a fake bun to the back and then wear a hairnet to make sure the bun didn't come out of place... It is rather difficult!

Anyway, hope this post helps some folks out there with shorter hair!

Beautiful Brides

So yesterday, (or maybe it was the day before) I was browsing some more and I saw some pictures of brides. I posted one of Edward and Alexandra... but here are some more less regal pictures!

Look at her veil. I wonder why there aren't any other girls in the picture.

Well... I guess this one is regal!

Matching gowns! :)

Beautiful! I love her rosary.

What a pretty veil!

Nicely tinted. I love all the material!

Doesn't she look happy?

Oh an actual ceremony! And look at that... is that the mother of the bride on the right?

This is 1850's but still a very pretty dress.

Kind of dreamy looking!

And... I couldn't resist one more picture of Alexandra and Edward! Isn't she pretty?

That's all for now!
